John Hibbard,

National Manager, Teaching and Learning of Musica Viva Australia on sharing the vision

What a visionary and energizing project!

I am enthused that Arts Now Australia encompasses an uncompromising attention to quality of art as well as popular appeal, whilst at the same time nurturing excellence and sustainable careers for emerging artists through mentorship. I am also enthused that Arts Now Australia engages the best of Australia with great artists of the world in local venues, making the best accessible to all.

To have all of this set in a range of venues that resonate with the climate, geography, intimate spaces and public energy of Sydney is a masterstroke.

As a music educator, and having recently presented an event combining experimental classical music and cinema at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image in Melbourne, I am excited at the range and interplay of art forms envisioned by Jennifer Kim.

In terms of directions for arts education in Australian schools, as outlined in the Australian Curriculum for the Arts (Australian Curriculum and Reporting Authority, 2013) the attention to a range of art forms within a single over-arching context, as well as in combination as envisioned in Arts Now Australia, sits strongly within contemporary arts trends and practice.

Most significantly, this is a project that captures the imagination. It has the potential to engage, and engage anew, a broad spectrum of the public, introducing them to fine music and art, or refreshing seasoned concertgoers, with fresh approaches and experiences beyond the traditional and perhaps less intriguing and engaging modes of presentation.

To Jennifer Kim and those who support her vision, I heartily give my personal endorsement to the Arts Now Australia initiative!

Yours sincerely,

John Hibbard (Sydney, Australia)
